Your 6-week Check-up
This appointment will be either with your OB, midwife or GP. It aims to review your physical and mental health, discuss the events of your birth, arrange any tests or ongoing treatment required, and plan for the future.
The 6-week postnatal checkup is the time to get some of your questions answered. Discuss any lingering health conditions. This is when you get the “all clear” to return to activities like exercise and intercourse. Exercise in this context is not returning to your pre-pregancy fitness routines. This is the stage when you can progress your rehabilitation given you have had an internal examination of your pelvic floor and an ultrasound on your abdominal wall to assess and measure your abdominal separation.
Because your body underwent major changes regardless of delivery mode, vaginal or cesarean, we recommend having a women’s health physiotherapist as part of your ongoing care team. We work collaboratively with them to address symptoms you may have, including:
Leakage (urinary or fecal)
Pelvic pressure
Prolonged postpartum bleeding
Pain that you are experiencing, including abdominal, low back, pelvic, and hip pain
Through tried and tested methods you will have the program to rehabilitate and strengthen your body to return to the activities you love without the worry of leaking in public.
